Biography

Kat Kinch is an associate practising in the family law, health law and professional regulation groups at Harper Grey. She served as a judicial law clerk at the British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver prior to articling with our firm.

Client Work

  • Advising and acting for physicians with legal issues arising from independent medical assessments they have conducted, medical-legal opinions they have provided and situations in which they are involved as witnesses in their patient's legal matters. This has included obtaining a dismissal of a case against a physician who provided a report (dismissal for failure to disclose a reasonable cause of action)
  • Representing family law clients by appearing in the Supreme Court of British Columbia for chambers applications, including successfully resolving entire cases with summary trial applications, obtaining interim orders for support, cancelling liens against property, and obtaining financial documents
  • Negotiating agreements between separating spouses in many types of cases, including those involving contested parenting schedules, corporate interests, complex income scenarios, shorter and longer relationships and third party interests
  • Assisting an individual called as a witness at a public inquiry
  • Working as counsel in civil and criminal cases involving novel areas of law, investigations, high profile matters and constitutional issues, including R. v. Blackmore and Oler
