William maintains a professional regulatiion and general litigation practice, with special emphasis on the representation of professionals in both civil and regulatory matters. He has appeared at every level of court in British Columbia, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and has appeared before a wide variety of regulatory and administrative tribunals.

In professional regulatory and civil matters, William has acted as counsel for most professionals including lawyers, teachers, dentists, doctors, psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, engineers, nurses, and podiatrists. He chairs the Professional Regulation Law practice group. 

Representative Client Work

  • Representing professionals before their governing body in a wide variety of disciplinary matters including allegations of sexual misconduct, improper prescribing of medication, negligence, breach of confidentiality and incompetence
  • Representing professionals involving application for a licence to practice
  • Providing policy advice to professionals and organizations on a number of matters including privacy legislation, and the scope of and proposed amendments to the Health Professions Act
  • Acting as counsel on an appeal involving a Constitutional and Charter challenge to a finding of professional misconduct and conducting unbecoming
  • Acting as counsel in a recent case involving the application of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
  • Acting as counsel to the Royal Commission on Workers Compensation in British Columbia
  • Acting as counsel in a number of leading Supreme Court of Canada cases including London Drugs v. Kuhne & Nagel, A.M. v. Ryan, and Hollis v. Birch

  • Speaker, Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia on matters of professional regulation and administrative law
  • Speaker, numerous conferences for the medical and legal profession including conferences for the Trial Lawyers Association, the Canadian Dental Association and the BC Medical Association
