Family Law
At Harper Grey, our family lawyers focus on providing solutions that deliver effective results in an economically beneficial manner, and on ensuring that you have the right information to make a well-informed choice. In presenting your options, we explore fully the potential outcome of each, ranging from how it will affect your financial situation twenty years from now to your relationship with your children, for example.
We believe that solutions are more effective, functional, and rewarding when they are chosen by you, rather than chosen by your lawyer.
Our work ranges from matrimonial disputes involving complex tax planning, trust arrangements and claims against business interests, to representing our clients in mediations, and facilitating discussions and assisting you in resolving disputes cooperatively. We also provide support to individuals who wish to represent their own interests. And should the need arise, we have the benefit of many years of experience acting for clients in litigation.
Our lawyers provide a high level of personal service and availability for our clients, recognizing that timely access and frank discussions with your lawyer are an integral part of moving forward with your life.

Current Issues for our Clients
Recent changes include the introduction of Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines. These guidelines are not law and are designed to be advisory only, with the goal of bringing more predictability to determining spousal support under the Act.
As of May 1, 2006, new Child Support Guidelines came into effect, and will increase payment amounts for BC Child Support payments.
Representative Experience
Our significant cases include:
- In a family law matter, assisted a businessman with a considerable portfolio of commercial properties to successfully retain control and ownership of those properties.
- In a family law matter and acting as a mediator, assisting a couple to swiftly and at minimum cost clarify and document agreements reached and negotiate a resolution to outstanding issues, which was quickly approved by their independent legal counsel. The parties were able to maintain their privacy and their amicable relationship for the benefit of their children.
