Aviation

The aviation industry is a specialized business environment with unique risks and continually evolving needs. The magnitude of the hull and liability risks insured are such that underwriters must absolutely have accurate and up-to-date information regarding reserves, case law, regional distinctions and other facets of insurance.

Harper Grey’s aviation lawyers focus on defence of airlines, airport facilities, maintenance and overhaul facilities, general aviation operators, and other aspects of the aviation industry. We work with underwriters around the world who represent clients in Canada and, in particular, British Columbia. We also work directly with companies within the industry who have a variety of needs.

Given the expense of aviation-related litigation, other effective methods of dispute resolution such as mediation and arbitration are a key aspect of the work we do.  We have a former Justice of the BC Court of Appeal in the firm who regularly mediates disputes.

Our lawyers are actively involved in the aviation industry. We are members of the following organizations, often attending and participating in their annual conferences:

  • ATAC - Air Transport Association of Canada
  • HAC - Helicopter Association of Canada
  • AIA - Aerospace Industries Association
  • Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch, Aviation subsection
