Kimberly Jakeman to participate in panel discussion on “Assisted Dying – New Legislation” at CBABC Elder Law Section Meeting
June 22, 2016
On Wednesday, June 22, 2016, Kim Jakeman will join in a panel discussion on “Assisted Dying – New Legislation” conducting at the CBABC Elder Law Section Meeting. In the wake of the delay in having Bill C-14 passed to address physician-assisted dying, the panel will discuss whether the proposed legislation complies with the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in Carter v. Canada (Attorney General); what are the criteria for determining whether someone qualifies for physician-assisted death under the proposed Bill C-14; and what are the implications in British Columbia (if any) caused by the delay by the Federal Government to meet with SCC’s deadline of June 6, 2016 to have federal legislation enacted.
