Owais Ahmed co-presented at the Advocate Society’s Seventh Annual Securities Symposium

On September 11, 2017 Harper Grey lawyer, Owais Ahmed, reviewed the British Columbia Court of Appeal’s recent decision on the breadth of the BC Securities Commission’s disgorgement powers under the British Columbia Securities Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 418 at The Advocate Society’s Seventh Annual Securities Symposium held in Toronto. Owais Ahmed represented one of the appellants in the appeal. In the decision, the Court of Appeal rejected the BC Securities Commission’s interpretation of the disgorgement power and formulated a new approach. Other topics presented at the Symposium include arrangements under the Business Corporations Act, multi-jurisdictional securities litigation, confidential investigations, and the limited waiver of privilege in enforcement investigations.
