ABOUT US

Harper Grey LLP is a Vancouver law firm with 58 lawyers who focus primarily on dispute resolution and litigation. We are the largest litigation focused firm in Western Canada and since 2012 have been named one of Canadian Lawyer’s “Top 10 Western and Northern Regional Firms”.

Since 1907 we have provided our clients with more than the defence of their lawsuits. We help them navigate complex legal issues and provide guidance towards the resolution of disputes and the prevention of future problems. We provide our clients with pro-active advice, depth of legal expertise and timely and responsive service.

Our lawyers have considerable experience as arbitrators and mediators and as counsel before all levels of British Columbia courts including the BC Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. 1907 was a milestone year in Vancouver. Purdy’s Chocolates began tempting locals with delightful chocolate treats and Birks added its sparkle to the local scene. The face of the legal community also changed with the formation of two significant organizations. First, the Vancouver Law Students Association took shape to standardize and formalize legal training. Second, the Honourable Joseph A. Martin, K.C., popularly known as “Fighting Joe”, formed a new partnership with Charles W. Craig and Harry A. Bourne carrying on business under the name Martin, Craig & Bourne.

Martin, Craig, Bourne, Hay, McDonald, Parkes, Tysoe, Ladner, Charmichael, Downs, Stewart, Langfield, Harper, Gilmour, Grey, de Vooght, Levis, van der Hoop, MacKinnon, Pyper, and Easton have all lent their names to our firm.

After one hundred years and more than 20 rounds of mergers and expansions leading to as many updates to the firm name, we became the present day Harper Grey LLP.

Maintaining our tradition of representing BC based clients and shaping BC laws and continually diversifying the types of law we practice to meet the needs of an ever-expanding geographical client base has been instrumental in our becoming the western-regional force we are today.

While the firm has had many opportunities to join national firms we remain regional, entirely convinced that our founders and those who followed have steered the right course by setting our roots deeper and deeper in the West, and always focusing on what we do best.
