Christopher Rusnak, KC to speak at UBC Earth Day Celebration

March 31, 2026

Harper Grey senior counsel, Christopher Rusnak, KC, will speak at the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) upcoming Earth Day Celebration. Being held at the Chan Centre on April 22, 2026, the event will include leading voices in ecology, Indigenous stewardship, law, literature, and music. Featuring an immersive evening of performance alongside a panel conversation exploring the future of forests and our shared responsibility to the living world, this event asks a vital question: how do we reimagine our relationship with forests – and with one another – in a time of ecological urgency?

Chris will be participating in the panel discussion, moderated by What On Earth host Laura Lynch, and including insights from UBC Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Stewardship Professor Suzanne Simard; Cree author and Governor General’s Literary Award–winning writer Michelle Good, author of Five Little Indians; and Environmental Stewardship scholar Dr. Teresa Ryan. Read more about the event here.

An advocate for the Rights of Nature, Chris sits on the Board of Directors of Suzanne Simard’s Mother Tree Network Society and writes about old growth forest protection and climate change, including In Defence of the Trees: Presenting the Case for Ancient Forest Rights, UCLA Journal of Environmental Law and Policy, (2023), 41(2).

With over thirty years of experience, Chris is a recognized leader in civil litigation. He has acted as counsel in some of Canada’s largest and most technically challenging cases in the fields of environmental contamination, engineering, construction, and product liability. Chris’ clients seek his advice on climate change related matters, and he works with First Nations to support their efforts to achieve reconciliation through recognition and redress of past wrongs.
