International Day of Persons with Disabilities

December 1, 2023

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities, celebrated on December 3rd, aims to promote the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities. Established by the United Nations, it commemorates the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and seeks to raise awareness of disability issues globally. This observance emphasizes breaking down barriers, challenging stereotypes, and creating a world where individuals with disabilities can fully participate. Roughly 15% of the world’s population has some form of disability, highlighting the importance of prioritizing their needs in society.

This year’s theme is, “United in Action to Rescue and Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for, with and by Persons with Disabilities.” The theme stresses the inclusion of people with disabilities in achieving global goals for a better and fairer world by 2030. In recognition of this important day, Harper Grey’s Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee has circulated informative resources firm-wide shining a spotlight on how we consider and interact with people with disabilities and how we can work towards a more inclusive society.
