Commentary on Digital Wills Co-Authored by Rose Shawlee and Samantha Norton Referenced in Canadian Lawyer Magazine Article

July 9, 2020

The June Edition of Harper Grey’s Estate Planning & Wealth Preservation Update was recently mentioned in an article published in Canadian Lawyer Magazine. Co-authored by Harper Grey lawyer, Rose Shawlee, and Harper Grey summer student, Samantha Norton, the update discussed new measures introduced by BC’s legislature to allow for Wills to be witnessed without having all signatories physically present together. In their commentary, Rose and Samantha identified potential issues arising from these changes, including the determination of whether an electronic will has been revoked, an increase in total costs and a rise in the number of wills signed under duress or influence or without fully understanding the will’s contents or consequences.
